Dear Sexy Pumpkins...
I would like to introduce to you my baby I call her Princess Nakande.
Five years ago I woke up with the idea of creating an organisation that will help girls in Africa. The problem was that I had the idea but didn't know how I was going to proceed about it.
So I let it slow cook in my head for a few years, every year gaining in maturity so obviously in ideas as well. In 2007 I was speaking with a dear friend of mine on the phone about everything and anything when he talked to me about this Cameroonian Douala princess by the name of Nakande. For some reason when I heard that name I had chills all over, it sounded so right I don't even know how to explain it.
Anyways I had found the name for my organisation but I still didn't know how I was going to help those girls, how was I suppose to start being a young woman myself? Who was I supposed to talk to about it?...
Well only God knows how he got me where I am today.
During the summer 2009, I spoke a lot about my ideas and my goals to a friend of mine who was with me in New york. She gave me a lot of insight and very strong motivation. I made my decision, I was going to put Nakande on its feet by the end of 2009. Yet another problem came up, where do I go to get things started? So I took two months to do some serious research. Just when I realized that sure my idea was good and my project as well, it was still missing something.
That is when in September 2009 I met with a young woman by the name of Olivia Ngou to host a gala for a Non-Profit Organization in NY. It was amazing, after talking to her for 30 minutes I realized that we understood each other so well, she was the missing link. She was building her Non-Profit as well for girls in Africa. She was focusing on health and I was focusing on Arts.
Joining forces with her gave birth on October 18, 2009 "The Nakande's Project".
Today I'm proud to say that we are officially an Incorporated Non-Profit in the U.S and we have many projects coming up for our dear mother Africa.
The Nakande's Project team counts 2 committees, 1 in France with 6 Board members and 1 in the U.S with 7 Board members.
Stay tuned for the website and more to come.
